Haydn: Symphonies No / Roy Goodman, Hanover by Haydn, Franz Joseph on CD. As on the Hanover Band's coupling of Nos. and (12/92), Goodman directs from the fortepiano, sometimes over creatively, as with his added suspensions in the slow introduction of the Surprise (bar 10,"). Symphony no 93 in D major, H 1 no 93 by.

The folks at Helios Records have produced a cycle of the Haydn Symphonies, and, over a few years, we now have the awesome Hanover Band, with Roy Goodman at the head, presenting them in groups of Symphonies per disk, depending, of course, on size of the works.5/5(7).

There’s nothing diffident about Roy Goodman’s treatment of Haydn. I’ve expressed reservations before about the prominence Goodman allows his harpsichord, both how much he plays and his high profile in the sound mix. On this disc (the 17th in the Hanover Band’s Haydn symphony cycle), the obtrusive harpsichord completely spoils my enjoyment.
